with Di Solomon

In these School Holidays Di Solomon is lending her considerable studio skills to singing
students wanting to make a recording.

Di Solomon has more than 30 years session singing experience with literally hundreds of
hours in the studio under her belt. Di has recorded many jingles (including coca-cola) and
worked for many composers on original songs. She has recorded two music CDs and an
instructional CD/book, which is available, discounted, to her students at $10.

Here’s how it works-
First, bring several songs to choose from, (unless you already have your heart set on
something!) we discuss merits of each song, maybe pre record for ideas, and discuss your
home preparation plans between our sessions. We will obtain a backing track for your
song, or we might decide to have Di play it on the piano or guitar for you to sound really
original. Songwriters can bring their own song to record too! Di is an excellent arranger
and pianist- phone to discuss this, as more than five sessions may be required for original material.

Next we record, correct, use studio techniques to improve overall sound, learn/rehearse
harmonies or counter melodies, add instruments, make a draft mix, then it’s re-recording
and re-mixing. Wait til you hear how good you can sound with studio effects on your voice!

Each student’s time line will be different based on ability, the song chosen and the
production techniques we use. If it is a simple lead vocal and the student is very accurate,
we may have time to record more than one song.

Then comes mixing, burning your song- and finally creating your artwork for the CD label
and the cover (or Di can do that for you).

Please understand the production will not be of broadcast level, but will be
an excellent product with the techniques we use in class. It’s crucial to pick a song that
suits your voice, which you can honestly-manage, microphones are non-forgiving for
singing out-of-tune and I don’t use computer pitch correction, so you really need to be
able to sing the song you choose. It’s more about the time we spend reworking the
recording and comfortable situation we create in the room that lifts the end product. Big
studios are expensive and one song can easily run into thousands of dollars in production.
In a nutshell, the end vocal performance will be better because we have more time and
encouragement in your private sessions.

Choose five half hour sessions from 10am - 3:30pm in January 2012. Dates available are
Monday 9th, 16th, and 23rd Tuesdays 10th, 17th and 24th, Wednesday 11th. Cost is $30 per
session, full payment of $150 will confirm your booking
